I just expressed it wrongly..

I can have a massive furnace going in my back yard, if the air is clear enough so the energy can be radiated into space, none if it will reach the arctic to melt 40-80km3 worth of ice. And the air pollution causing thermal retention is generated mostly in the First World. Baddabing baddaboom - remove the First World and you might save the ice. Remove the Third World, and hardly anybody would notice. Except the poor buggers in the Third World, of course.
