Just popping in to say "hi" from my vacation! We came to our summer house yesterday and the weather is excellent.

My daughter Jenny (5 years) and I went out fishing with our little outboarder and, uhm, about halfway across the fjord we ran out of fuel. :cup:

After trying to rown the boat to shore (about a mile) with a single oar, I had the mind to stand up and wave the oar about instead. After about an hour someone finally noticed us and towed us back to our place.

Ain't holidays fun.

:hyper: :hyper: & :hyper: Nice to hear you all are having a fine time, but worrisome to hear of a water safety issue. May I recommend purchasing a second paddle?:hyper:

Since I can't get there in time to go over some boating safety, may I recommend some light vacation reading?:)

For some light vacation reading, I now recommend Chapman Piloting, Seamanship & Small Boat Handling [Hardcover: 656 pages]

There is no better maritime humor than Norsk maritime humor.:cup: You know perfectly well that they come in ones. The idea of two paddles is of course to allow you to use one to continue paddling in a circle while you wave the other. :star:

Well... I can't speak for Tormod, but I was out on one of my boat this previous weekend, and we had to fill it up with a few-hundred dollars worth of gas.

Where I live: gas is about $3.28/gallon (US)

I hear Europe is a lot worse.

California and Hawaii are up way over $4.

Sans the almost-intollerable gas prices, being out on the Chesapeake Bay is lovely....

...although probably not as great as a Norwegian fjord!

So - how's the fishing, apart from you being strangled by the international fuel crisis?

So far the fuel crisis has provided the only suspense out there. Not a living thing in sight. :)

@merc: I filled up 25 litres of gas at about $2/litre, which comes to about $8/gallon. B)

I am vacationing there vicariously through you T! If I were there now, we would be toasting with a whiskey as you razz me for mis-representing an oar as a paddle. This you would do to me mid-shot, whereupon I would laugh & snork the whiskey up my nose where it would stay & continue to burn for 3 hours. You would then razz me about that until I provided a new target for your humorous jesting. So it would go until you get fed up with laughter & show me the door....why I'm home already!

Cheers!

:hihi: You're welcome here any time, Turtle. I have the scotch ready (it's already half full).
