I joined Hypography a few months ago because I enjoy discussions. I believe that I can indeed discuss almost any topic in a detatched manner, and also that hypography encourages such discussions only.

Lately there have been a couple of instances that point out that my beliefs are not founded on reality.

  1. The first instance pertains to the thread related to the terrorist acts of a certain organization. I in fact was totally unaware of even the name of this organization, but as is my habit, i tried to reason out. But I was indeed shocked when the initiator of that particular thread asked me to get out of his thread. Well I never knew that threads are personal properties. The gentelman in question could have instead ignored my post or try yo reason against it, since he found it so unreasonable. But that is not what transpired.
  2. The second instance was today, when a member asked me to get off his way. He was responding to a thread on destiny initiated by myself. In fact he went as far to cite some racial memories, totally out of context.

I strongly feel that if the sole pupose of Hypography is to encourage healthy discussions, such individual should be discouraged from such behavior.

Hallenrm: I dont think either case is clear, so you may be over-reacting. I suggest giving the benefit of the doubt, for the moment. The internet can be rather deceptive as a communication medium.

hallern, when these things happen (believe me, it happens to all of us from time to time) it is a good idea to take a step back and think about what has happened. Try to see if the comment you have received is meaningful and has a point, or if it is arrogant ant worthless. In case of the former, learn from it and move on. In case of the latter, report it! We sure want to be a community for open-minded discussion. But when people meet, especially in an anonymous medium such as the web, it is hard to read feelings out of a post.

Sorry that you feel this way, though. Cheer up my friend, this is a good place. :)

Thanks, Tormod I do agree with you and I leave it to your judgement to see whether the comment I have received is meaningful and has a point, or if it is arrogant and worthless. In case of the former, learn from it and move on. In case of the latter, report it!

Ijust reported it and responded to it in the most civilized manner and belive me if it happens again I will definitely ignore it!

But lately I have seen several instances where the members claim personal proprietyship of a thread they initiated. This has to be discouraged through a point or two in the membership rules. A thread is often a result of contributions from several members, they have to be aware of this and refrained frpm making statements that include the phrase "my thread'.

I raised the issue because I have noticed several instances earlier too, including one from a so called spiritualist from India, who chose hypography as a medium to deliver long discourses.

As we all are very much aware certain overenthusiastic members of various cults are just looking for a space to spread propaganda about their organization. We need to be forewarned for the perils ahead.

Thanks to Turtle and ughaibu too.:) :) :)

Ditto on Tormod's comments.

As you've probably been able to tell recently with some of my own interactions, often when we try to keep threads inline without limiting peoples abilities to express themselves, tempers flare and emotions run high. It's a tough balance to find, but just as any community, Hypography will have representatives from both ends of the proverbial spectrum.

Propaganda? No.

People here have very different views when it comes to some things.

This often leads to people making unnecessary comments, but it's something we all go through.

Please do not feel as if you have been singled out. Just give it time, and you should come to find that many people here will support you in as many ways possible.

Remember, there is always negative rep.!
