Mercedes Benzene Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 I just wanted to get peoples' opinions on computer preferences. It seems that a lot of my friends love Macs, but I can't stand them!I love PCs, and will probably keep PCs as my choice computer for the rest of my life. What do you guys prefer?Macs or PCs?please post comments explaining why you chose the option you did! Quote
Queso Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 I've an Apple G5and I've had it longer than I've ever had any computer in the past. It's outlived, and outperformed, by far. I use it primarily for audio editing, and it does the job. Mac's aren't for gaming. They pwn, but there aren't many games available. All computers are screwy, but geez...look at how they've improved!Man I remember just 8 years ago I was running a dual 133mhz, and I thought THAT was fast... I would prefer a PC if I didn't make music,Winamp is super. Especially the Milkdrop visualization . . . (((WOW)))Plus I LOVE Half-Life. Quote
Zythryn Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 PC for game selection and price. However, with Mac's now/soon able to run WinXP I may reconsider. I started on a Mac (Apple 2+) and have always preferred the computer. The gaming software available is sadly lacking though. If Apple simply hadn't been so heavy handed about their proprietary software and allowed more developers in, they would not have lost so much market share (IMHO). Quote
UncleAl Posted July 23, 2006 Report Posted July 23, 2006 Macs for graphics and sound. PCs for raw power at a low price - if custom built. Gateway is cheap, generic, and under-powered. Dell is expensive and proprietary. Neither one can touch http://www.abs.com/index.asp Wait until 2007 for quad cores and 65 nm AMD architecture, http://news.zdnet.co.uk/hardware/chips/0,39020354,39278934,00.htmhttp://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=5692http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/06/05/first_benchmarks_conroe_vs_fx-62/ In our hands, the same source code compiled for WincrapXP ran 40% faster in the same iron when compiled Linux and booted Knoppix-LIVE! from a DvD. Think about that. A 3-minute external DvD boot massively outperformed an interminable Windcrap complete installation running off a fast hard drive. We did have to specify English during the Knoppix boot, so some of those 180 sceonds were extra overhead. Quote

Racoon Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 This thread should have much of the information you seek/are curious about. Its always helpful to do a search first.(In the sporting world this would get "glass diqued" :) ) http://hypography.com/forums/community-polls/5599-do-you-use-mac-apple.html Quote
Kriminal99 Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Macs dont even exist outside of LA LA Land. There only used for media editing. Quote
Tormod Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 Missing option: I have both, and love both. :cup: And no, they're not used for just media editing. I use it for everything. Quote
Mercedes Benzene Posted July 24, 2006 Author Report Posted July 24, 2006 I have both, and love both. But if you were given a choice of only one, which one would it be? Quote
alexander Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 neither, i dont have apples, but i dont support their movement to Intel, i hate x86 architecture because it is so badly designed... so Spark or Mips anyone? actually i'm waiting for quadcore AMD64 laptops to come out, so i can piss off apple people... :cup: Quote
Tormod Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 But if you were given a choice of only one, which one would it be? My MacBook Pro, since it can run Mac OSX, Linux and Windows. Quote
alexander Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 and it also runs on a processor that has more problems then any processor ever released, and instead of fixing it, Intel people told developers to work around the problems... Quote
Queso Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 and it also runs on a processor that has more problems then any processor ever released, and instead of fixing it, Intel people told developers to work around the problems... HAH! Screw the intel macs, I knew they were going to run into some problems. Quote
Tormod Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 HAH! Screw the intel macs, I knew they were going to run into some problems. My MacBook Pro never has problems. Whenever the probability for an error occurs, it just freezes for 20 seconds to avoid any problems. :cup: Quote
alexander Posted July 24, 2006 Report Posted July 24, 2006 its the intel procs, not intel macs.. but nontheless, they are faster then the powerbooks, and they still are wicked nice for normal people... its just that i am waiting for quadcore 64s so i can put any intel product to shame... Quote
mwar Posted August 31, 2006 Report Posted August 31, 2006 MAC users LOVE MACs!!!!!! They’re generally like cult followers, they worship them and would drink a vial of arsenic before switching to a PC, that in itself does say a lot! You don’t generally see PC users feeling the same way. I admit they are really hot machines, but since I’ve worked with PC’s for over 15 years I am admittedly biased. It's really just a "comfort", "familiarity", "feels like a good ol' shoe" kind of thing, the truth is MACs are essentially better-made. Apple tends to “over-engineer” their computers, so that you can get by without an upgrade for a much longer time. It's about eight to ten years, as opposed to the PC’s three to five year span. Look at theaones.com/answers/Computers/which-is-the-best-computer-for-your-home-business.htm for a complete explanation about the difference between MACs and PCs Quote

I've worked with PCs since 1985 and both PCs and Macs since 1995, and can safely say: "Bullshit". Quote
