Jay-qu Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 Welcome to Hypography yngwieragnarok! Thats one mouthful of a name you have there! Does it have a meaning? Quote
InfiniteNow Posted July 27, 2006 Report Posted July 27, 2006 JQ took the words right out of my mouth. :hihi: Hello yng, Welcome to Hypography. What brings you to our community? Let us know what you're interested in, and enjoy your stay! :eek2: Cheers. :) Quote
yngwieragnarok Posted July 28, 2006 Author Report Posted July 28, 2006 Thanks for the welcome. The name actually stems from two sources. "Yngwie" is the first name of a Swedish guitar player, and whose full name is "Yngwie Malmsteen". The term "ragnarok" is from Norse mythology and is the epic final battle between gods and giants and everyone else in their world. I was drawn here because I am reading Brian Greene's "The Elegant Universe" and thought I would research a little more into superstrings and physics. I'm just out of high school and I am seriously considering studying in this field. Again, thanks for the welcomes! Quote
Jay-qu Posted July 28, 2006 Report Posted July 28, 2006 Ahh that is an exellent book! can get a fair bit complex, but dont be daunted by it, just keep going and read what you can understand you will still learn heaps! Interesting roots of your name.. Quote

PBS made a NOVA episode based on this, hosted by Brian Greene, and adds some interesting visual elements to the concepts. It's available on DVD. If you ever get the chance, you should check it out. It's also a part of my own collection. :hihi: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/ :) Quote
Michaelangelica Posted July 29, 2006 Report Posted July 29, 2006 Hi & welcome. I am new here too. I have found it a nice community You will find the people here helpful and knowledgeable. Do you have a special area of interest? Quote
yngwieragnarok Posted July 31, 2006 Author Report Posted July 31, 2006 I have noticed this forum is vastly more mature than other forums I have been on and that is awesome. There is no one area I have an interest in. I have found math to be a strong suit, but after developing a serious case of senioritis, I kind of ignored much of my AP Calculus class. Same went for my AP Chem class. I am also really interested in biology, geology, meteorology, physics, astronomy, cosmology and sociology, such as government, history, and psychology. Well, I look forward to some fascinating topics in here. Quote

Another member is trying to educate me and I am not impressed so far. The history threads are fairly new if you want to add anything. We need some meteorology threads Quote
