Mercedes Benzene Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 I remember a while ago, in some thread that I cannot remember the name of, the issue of smoking came up. To me, it seemed that a lot of hypographers smoked/did drugs on a regular basis. I found it quite odd, and wanted to know exactly why this group in particular seemed so interested in doing drugs. So here's the poll! For discussion:Why is it that hypographers have an affinity for smoking and/or doing drugs? Are there any correleations between smoking and the nature of these forums (science)
Tarantism Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 i love smoking weed, its so relaxing, and it goes well with meditation, though i usually do that sober. i took drugs before i joined hypography, and one thing that suprised me was that, while on LSD among other psychedelic drugs, i found it easier to grasp, or as i like to say, "wrap my head around" the mind excersizes of physics, and my knowlege of the sciences has improved vastly since i joined here. i dont credit this to drugs, no, instead i credit it to my more-open mind, a result of drug use. drugs seem to give the user the ability to "think outside the box", the box being the mind, or "put yourself in another shoes", almost literally. sometimes when im tripping i feel so hard that it hurts. this is only certain drugs of course. the psychedelics are really the only ones that are useful for expanding the mind, and MDMA is useful in great moderation for pleasant human interaction. marijuana is a plant, and therefore the correlation between hypography and magical green herbs....is botany.
Tormod Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 No smoking, no drugs for me. I have close relatives who have succumbed to drugs and are incapable of taking care of themselves (we're talking heroin etc). I do not condone drugs at all and frankly I think Hypography would be a better place if people stopped saying how wonderful psych drugs are. They may be "cool" but they are harmful and considering that many of our users are minor it is also irresponsible IMHO. I think this poll will find that few hypographers take drugs. (That said, I don't think the option "No. Drugs are stupid" is very good - there is ample reason for thinking drugs are okay but still refraining from use them).
infamous Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 Are there any correleations between smoking and the nature of these forums (science)I'm rather sure that most of we Hypographers have at one time or another experimented with chemical induced altered states of consciousness. From my own experience, the scientific mind will experiment from time to time. However, the most important lesson I learned was this simple fact: The use of chemicals for this purpose will only lead to a chemical dependence and anyone wishing the freedom to exercise their scientific mind will resist any such control over their own personal sovereignty.............Infy
Mercedes Benzene Posted August 6, 2006 Author Report Posted August 6, 2006 I'm rather sure that most of we Hypographers have at one time or another experimented with chemical induced altered states of consciousnessWell I've never done drugs, and I don't plan on doing them at all. I wish I could remember what thread it was that started this all, but I remember someone suggesting that I start a thread devoted completely to this topic. So here it is.
Queso Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 Are there any correleations between smoking and the nature of these forums (science) Yeah, Curiosity. The desire to learn more about everything. All the questions that surface,I embed in these forums.Answers roll in. Hypography pwns. :eek2:
Tarantism Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 the statement "drugs are bad" is such a horrible thing. becuase kid's parents say lots of things little kids do is bad. these things may be things that kids like to do, such as run into the street. when they are stopped, the young mind may think subconciously, "oh, thats freedom. in the street i have broken free". i belive you get the same effect with illigal drugs. now, if certain, relativley safe drugs were legalized, such as marijuana, MDMA, LSD, mescaline and the 2C substances, then i think we would not only see a decrease in the desire for children to use these substances, but also a great decrease in time. we are filling our prisons up with harmless drug users, not rapists or murderers. thats another plus, more prison space. plus, the government could tax them, and there fore gross more profit to assist with the resession that we have. we should arest the psychopath for killing twelve, not taking LSD and killing twelve.
Mercedes Benzene Posted August 6, 2006 Author Report Posted August 6, 2006 plus, the government could tax them, and there fore gross more profit to assist with the resession that we have. That's a good idea. Considering our government is in a huge deficit. And, to make things worse, as of today, we've spent in excess of 300 billion dollars on the freakin unnecesary war in IRAQ.Gah. that pisses me off. Anyway, to get back on track, I think that legalizing marijuana would be a good idea if we could regulate and tax it.
Racoon Posted August 6, 2006 Report Posted August 6, 2006 Good poll idea MB. But you could have added more options. What about No-smoke cigarrettes - occasional pot? :eek2:or vice a versa? Looks like the resident pollster needs to turn the heat back up :cup: I agree and disagree on the Marijuana usage. While there are plenty of idiots/youngsters who shouldn't, or those who puff to excess,.. there are the grounded "tokers" who genuinely relax and increase their creativity. In this messed up, and crazy world, sometimes you need a little "extra", to supplement your Consciousness, that is daily grinded and bombarded by modern living. I did not find an option that I could vote in...

Tweakers are absolutely menacing,I have had so many things stolen by people addicted to meth. Bye Bye Brain.
Tarantism Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 haha. some tweakers once stole my ID, my cellphone charger, one of my acoustic guitars and my sketchbook.yuck,
Drip Curl Magic Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 I found it hard to pick an option as well. It's not all black and white. Where is the grey area? The closest answer I could find to describe my toking was "yes, marijuana" But it seperates me and labels me as a casual everyday smoker. And this is not the case. In the past year or so, I've reduced my smoking so dramatically that I can probably count the number of times that I've smoked with my fingers(maybe even just 5 fingers). I'm VERY cautious about smoking. And when I do, I'm rarely ever with anyone, because I feel that marijuana shouldn't be used as a social tool. I do it on my own time when I feel like creating with a varied perspective on things. I'm a less-than-occasional-toker. And I quit smoking cigarettes. drugs are bad- in the wrong hands. Have fun, be comfortable, be realistic,be comprehensive, and be safe. smiles. Chacmool 1
Tarantism Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 guns dont kill people, people kill people. drugs arent bad, peoples minds are bad. well, actaully some are bad. addictive, dependants, habit forming, ones. oh and PCP.
Drip Curl Magic Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 btw, I found it incredibly funny when after I voted, I checked who'd voted for what... and the only people who voted for "yes, maijuana" were the people I knew in person.
