Phileas Fogg Posted August 7, 2006 Report Posted August 7, 2006 I just found your forum, as I was seeking a science forum. I am from Finland, - english is not my mother-tongue. Most of my life I've been living in the capital, Helsinki. I've travelled well.. enough, and also lived around Europe for short periods. Now I've been living in countryside here in Finland for few years, and I think it suits me best. At the moment I am interested in the climate change/ozone hole -things. Been reading Al Gore´s Earth In Balance. I think this came because this summer has been just awful here; hot and dry, birches are turning yellow, and pines become brown and it will affect to our harvest. There hasn't been a drop of water since early June and now it's 7th August. Usually it rains a lot in summer in Finland. People just say it's normal, and soon it will rain, and next year will be cool, but I don't believe it. Our newspapers in Finland don't write about climate change, I think they have chosen such policy. They don't write about bird flu now. In spring, this year the newspaper got mad about bird flu, and then they stopped writing, and because that people think H1N5 is just a media hoax. I am no believer in conspiracy theories; many-many-too many people here believe you can blame Bush or the Freemasons about everything; I am not one of them. Basically I am religious, I do my meditation; but I am not so interested in talking about it. I have noticed that people tend to heat up, and get dogmatical when discussing about religion, so I think it's best to avoid the subject. I don't know... Often I have missed neutrality... At the moment I've begun to read Lenin's biography by Robert Service, 2000. I am very interested to know what Lenin really thought about religion. I love literature; especially Jules Verne and Stephen King. :steering: Quote

Phileas Fogg Posted August 7, 2006 Author Report Posted August 7, 2006 YAY! Someone from Helsinki!! This is soo exciting. My favorite band is called "Architecture in Helsinki". Anyway, that's besides the point. Thanks, M. Benzene. Funny this city of Helsinki, - I got so bored living there, that I have pushed it, and everything connected to it to the back of my mind. It's a "big" city of concrete & asphalt, and I never really understood people who live there. I was born there, yes, but still... Architecture is one good thing in Helsinki; I used to walk with my camera around Töölö, and in the center. The island fortress Suomenlinna is one thing I really miss from Helsinki. It was built around 1740's, and one of the biggest sea-fortresses of the world. The Gibraltar of the North, it was called. Also there was some awesome old books shops in Helsinki, but it's good I am away from them, I'd spend all my money there. About bands I don´t know; never heard about "Architecture in Helsinki" :steering: Quote
