learnin to learn Posted August 17, 2006 Report Posted August 17, 2006 so that is why he owed jaba all that money! ok! I really need to go back and watch these movies! (its been awhile) Quote
Loricybin Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 vader, of course. when i was little, i remember seeing return of the jedi, and the part where vader dies made me cry."luke lost his daddy!"(granted he had problems:lol:) Quote
Spiked Blood Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Leia has no votes? I'm appalled. Does the fact that she has no votes have any relation to the poll being on a science forum? Darth Vader was my childhood hero.. Gone, but not forgotten!:) Quote
TheBigDog Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Yep spice was a drug, and if I can remember an incredibly powerful one at that. Han dumped a load of spice before being boarded by imperials and that is what got him in trouble with Jaba. That was before his work with the rebellion though. He only became a member of the rebellion after he met Luke and LeiaYou could jump to that conclusion, but it is not specified in the films. And I don't remember it in the books. As I recall spice was just that, spice. But it was smuggled to avoid taxes by the Imperials. The Imperials wanted their cut, they were not trying to prevent transport of something illegal. It would seem to me that in a univese like that one there would be some planets that lacked some of the basics needed for survival. Spice was something that I always thought of as being one of those basic needs, and the Imperials flexed their power by regulating it. The black market developed to bypasss that central control that didn't meet market demands. I don't believe Han was a drug dealer. Bill Quote
Spiked Blood Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 Nah, spice was a narcotic of sorts. I remember reading it in a Star Wars novel based around Kessel. The spice gives the 'user' enhanced abilties. Quote
learnin to learn Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 so is Han a drug dealer? or is he just smuggling spices? Quote
TheBigDog Posted August 20, 2006 Report Posted August 20, 2006 I stand corrected. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spice_(Star_Wars) Bill Quote
cwes99_03 Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 We forgive you BD because you went and looked for the answer. :hammer: Cheers. BTW you didn't include the closing paranthesis in your URL link, so it is broken. And since I saw it while checking out BD's article. Here's a reference we should all enjoy. http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page Quote
Tarantism Posted August 21, 2006 Author Report Posted August 21, 2006 haha cwes thats a really cool link! certainly satisfying to my inner nerd. i wish i would have had that during my nerdier days...all i had was those "essential giudes"...though they were sufficient for all of my technical star wars needs. haha. learnin to learn Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 OK, I think I get this now! Han smuggled spices to bypass the imperial tax. hehehehe I am no longer confused!:) I love the link! talkin bout freakin awesome! Quote
cwes99_03 Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 Nope. Please try again. Spice was illegal (as cocaine is today). However, the Imperials allowed one spice merchant to make huge sums of money providing spice to Imperials only. Since the effects of spice heightened ones abilities, many others wanted spice as well (and once taken were addicts) others smuggled spice to fatten their pocket books by selling an illegal product on the black market.Imperials didn't want their enemies having spice, nor did they want their own profits to be eaten into by smugglers. If you have ever played the KOTOR games, you take stims (spice) to boost your speed, reflexes etc. but they don't call it spice. Quote
learnin to learn Posted August 21, 2006 Report Posted August 21, 2006 lol so han did smuggle drugs. :) Quote
