Ananke Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 I dont follow any ideology. All such are ultimately lies, and serve merely to limit your freedom of thought and action. Are you by any chance a socialy conservative christian? Quote
LJP07 Posted September 1, 2006 Report Posted September 1, 2006 Are you by any chance a socialy conservative christian? I thought you didn't want to continue the argument and go off-topic!? :)And I won't hi-jack a thread Cwes :) Anyway, I think the education that covers most ( if not all ) aspects of education are made in my table Ananke at the top, of course some are more important than others which is what people here are trying to discuss, not argue. hallenrm Posted September 2, 2006 Author Report Posted September 2, 2006 Since I initiated this thread, I think a intervention in the foregoing discussion is called for! The main points raised by various honorable members can be summarized as follows: 1. Education is equivalent to learning. 2. The purpose of education is social control. 3. Education per se requires the intervention of teachers/parents etc. etc. Let me respond point vise, While learning is a lifelong activity, education is the foundation on which a person builds up his/her edifice of knowledge. This foundation is laid early in life, say during the first sixteen(?) years of life. Education can be imparted to an individual even if he/she does not attend a formal school, either by parents/tutors or the surrounding society. For example the education of the street urchin. Formal education is not really necessary for survival or success in life. In fact one can find enough examples of socially successful persons who are not educated in the sense education is often construed to be; they are street wise! :) Quote
cwes99_03 Posted September 5, 2006 Report Posted September 5, 2006 Very astute observations. May I add 1 thought to go along. Education can come from interactions with or observations of inanimate objects. Such an education is self-taught. Quote
