Tarantism Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 are pineal glands present in all animals or are they unique to human beings? Quote
Boerseun Posted August 24, 2006 Report Posted August 24, 2006 It seems as if the pineal gland is present in some form or another in most animals. It has a strong resemblance to the structure of the eye, and was initially believed to be a vestigial organ of some sort, much like the appendix.Eventually it was discovered in the 1960's that the pineal gland produces melatonin, regulating the circadian rythm.
