TheBigDog Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 Hurray! I've been selected!!! Well, I just gotta boast about it everywhere I can, might as well start here. Here goes. This year, I've participated in the selection rituals for te international biology olympiads, and it's supposed to be a really high level exam. Or so everyone says. See, there's this national selection being done by this organisation, and they select the best of the Indians. I cleared the first stage, and appeared in the top 1% of all appearing individuals throughout the nation. That was somewhat a big deal, seeing that a total of 150 selections were made. This was the second level of selections, and they select just around thirty-forty students. But I expected no more from myself; I assumed that I'd not make it to the third level. I checked their list of selections for the third level minutes ago. Guess what... MY NAME'S ON THE LIST!!! HURRAY!!!! :D Well... that's that. BTW, I'm number 39, if anyone's had a look at it anyway. This calls for a party!Congratulations Ron! "The Pride of Mumbai" Bill Quote

Pyrotex Posted March 6, 2007 Author Report Posted March 6, 2007 I just attended a two hour engineering meeting in our conference room. One of the attendees was (THE) Chris Craft of NASA Mission Control Room fame. I got to speak to him briefly and shake his hand. And no, I haven't washed it yet. Quote

And no, I haven't washed it yet.I share the feeling: I got to meet Gene Kranz at a book signing in Manhattan. Who'd have thunk that a flat-top would be so sexy? Now Glyn Lunney is the real cutie pie from Mission Control though... Failure is not an option, :rolleyes:Buffy Quote
Pyrotex Posted April 5, 2007 Author Report Posted April 5, 2007 Helzapoppin! I've been out sick for three days, which is why I haven't recorded any whistling. Feeling much better this afternoon. Gwen and I were supposed to sign the papers on our NEW HOUSE today, but the mortgage company didn't get all the paperwork done, and so now it has to happen late next week. [sigh] It's an historical house, built in 1898, has 1240 sq feet, nice big yard with mature trees. Pictures will follow. Quote
Pyrotex Posted April 18, 2007 Author Report Posted April 18, 2007 Took Gwen, my darlin' wife, to see Rod Stewart in concert last night at the Toyota Center in downtown Houston. It was awesome. ...in the morning, kick me in the head :evil:Pyro Quote
Queso Posted April 19, 2007 Report Posted April 19, 2007 Oh yeah?Well I saw the Flaming Lips play a free show in Gainsville. So much love is in the air . . Quote
TheBigDog Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 This Sunday I am leaving on a business trip to Leiden, Netherlands. I will be working some long hours during the week, but I will have the weekend to do some sight seeing before my trip home. Any suggestions of what to see while I am there? (aside from the red light district) Bill Quote
Tormod Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 This Sunday I am leaving on a business trip to Leiden, Netherlands. I will be working some long hours during the week, but I will have the weekend to do some sight seeing before my trip home. Any suggestions of what to see while I am there? (aside from the red light district) Ack. I wish I had the chance to come down and have some whiskey with you in the excellent scotch bar downtown Leiden... Anyway, you most certainly want to wander around the shopping district around the canal, it's full of small stores etc. I was there last spring but the weather was pretty bad so I spent most of my time in the above mentioned place. I didn't know there was a red light district in Leiden, but you might wanna go in to Amsterdam for that (and for other reasons, it's a great city). The train takes you there pretty fast I think. Quote
Pyrotex Posted April 20, 2007 Author Report Posted April 20, 2007 Ack. I wish I had the chance to come down and have some whiskey with you... Amsterdam...Me, too! I loved Amsterdam.See the Reichsmuseum, and next door to that, the van Gogh Museum. Not far from that is Fondel Park, beautiful in the spring!!!!Within a stone's throw of the red light area is a restaurant called, die Gelege Angelor close to that. "comforting angel" is a close translation.Stay away from the so-called "coffee shops" nearRembrandt Park. They're full of loud, obnoxious Americans. :eek2:Pyro Quote
Pyrotex Posted May 31, 2007 Author Report Posted May 31, 2007 You guys might want to see the new (old) house that Gwen and I have moved into. It is 1250 square feet. Two bedrooms, two baths. One bedroom is the library/computer room. Nice big kitchen. Built-in cat door!! Nice back yard with old, old trees. The house is considered an "historical home" in League City, Texas, as it was originally built in 1898. Take a look. Pix. Quote
Pyrotex Posted May 31, 2007 Author Report Posted May 31, 2007 Here is the house from the back yard. Quote
TheBigDog Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 I have the same pretty white flowers in front of my house. Plus yellow ones, and fluffy white ones! Bill Quote
