Pyrotex Posted September 25, 2007 Author Report Posted September 25, 2007 First day on my new job! New company: SAIC (Software Applications International Corporation). My cubicle is larger, nicer and more useful. They even changed the height of the desks for me. :cup: Nice people. Fantastic IT department. Great support staff. Security is fierce. I won't be able to post from work any more. :cup: :( :( All keystrokes are monitored by security software. I really enjoyed the call from Jay-Qu Saturday!!! :esmoking: I never talked to someone that far away before. NW Australia! Wow, dudes!!!!!! Thanks again, JQ. I was blown away. Great luck in your studies. Pyro/Nelson Quote

Pyrotex Posted November 12, 2007 Author Report Posted November 12, 2007 Well here I am in a new (100 year old) house, a new wheelchair, a new job and a new shoulder. My 61st birthday is coming up in a week. What could I possibly want? So, I called up a friend of mine (a fellow Unitarian and NASA engineer), and he took me out Sunday morning for an hour-long ride on the back of his Honda Goldwing! :weather_snowing: :) :hihi: :) ;) AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess that makes me a "biker *****"??? :earth: Quote
freeztar Posted November 16, 2007 Report Posted November 16, 2007 Today was spent hugging trees. It was my job. :)We are working on a stream restoration project and it involved several different evaluations, mostly pertaining to the small stream. A county ordinance requires that all trees (included in its list of "preferred" species) having a diameter larger than 12 inches be preserved, or else mitigated (ie tree plantings of sufficient biomass), in accordance with county regulations. Surveyors are following behind and recording the points. I had to mark the trees and species so that they can shoot in the "critical" trees. Wrapping flagging-tape around a 20-inch diameter sweet gum (L. styraciflua) requires a reach-around hug. I love my job! :) Quote

learnin to learn Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 well I am currently on christmas break. My girl friend is about to leave for china where she will be studying for the next four months. And I cannot wait to get back to school! Quote
InfiniteNow Posted January 15, 2008 Report Posted January 15, 2008 I began my first class at university in seven years today. Chinese. It's going to be tough. My company is paying for it though, as long as I keep my grades up, that is. I bought a motorcycle, and have been doing some maintenance on it replacing plugs and fluids and tubes and the like. This way, I can actually find parking, which is impossible to do in a car at the University of Texas campus. I'm still working on the same monster project I was a year ago, and we are now only five months away from go-live of phase 1. The house is coming a long. I've been doing drywall and concrete work lately, and spent a few weekends over the holiday in my attic redoing electrical. Anyway, I had my first class today. Chinese. Gan bei. Quote
Michaelangelica Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 Going into hospital tomorrow to see if any Big C is left.:) Funny how your mind says "Who cares, lots of opium ahead":)While all the budging bacteria say "Noooooo!":eek2: Quote
Pyrotex Posted September 8, 2009 Author Report Posted September 8, 2009 Just got back from a week vacation with the wife in Colorado: Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, Alamosa, Canon City. Fantastic! I'll spell it all out in my blog, when I can find the time. Now I'm back at work trying to revise the first probabalistic risk analysis I did for NASA back 18 months ago -- because some new data has come up. Man! Trying to remember your thought processes while writing a technical document over a year ago is a pain in the patooskis. Good luck michaelangelica! Quote
