Moonchild Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 FrankM referred to the following: The old Piri Reis map had zero latitude out in the Atlantic, no political favorites there; it may correspond to the exact vertical position on earth when it passes through the defined precession point in 2012. Now, I'm just wondering what Frank's referring to...anyone know? Quote
IrishEyes Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 Moonchild,I know that 2012 is supposed to be some sort of spiritual time, according to many religions and groups of people. There is some sort of Mayan Indian prophecy regarding the year, I think it has to do with the vernal equinox. I can't really remember, but I remember studying about it in a class many years ago. There are other groups, one of them a Native American tribe, that also has something associated with the year. Supposedly it has something to do with winter solstice (12/21/12), and the earth being at the center of the galaxy, or something like that. Sorry, I don't really have much mroe info than that. Of course, if it was FrankM, then I'm probably way off from what he meant. He seems to be much mroe scientific than to reference a date associated with any type of mythology, ancient or otherwise. (Not meant as a slam on FrankM, just an observation. Please don't take offense) Quote
Freethinker Posted November 12, 2004 Report Posted November 12, 2004 A quick Google of Piri Reis precession point 2012 provides details 1) Piri Reis refers to a map found in 1929 drawn in 1513 by Piri Reis, a famous admiral of the Turkish fleet in the sixteenth century. Notes on the map indicate he compiled it from various other maps going back past 400 BCE. It has all kinds of details which are amazing for it's time. It shows coast lines that were under ice at the time and had been for thousands of years. It shows an accurate layout of the LAND MASS of Antartica 300 years before it was known to be discovered. And it's shape was only known by it's ice mass until after 1950 when the actual land mass was mapped. It also follows cartography rules for earth's curvature transposed onto a 2d surface. 2) the precession point in 2012 is also of interest in a historical knowledge aspect. Yes it correlates to Mayan observations of the heavens. An Equinox is when hours of daylight and night are the same. The Mayan's also realized that the stars progressed thru the heavens on a predictable basis. And that there was a central mass we would know as the center of the Milky Way. Combine these two and we have a once every 25,800 alignment of the solar Equinox pointing to the center mass of the Milky Way. Truley amazing to discover how much was known how far back. Especially in light of only coming out of the forced ignorance of the Christian Dark Ages a few centuries ago. Imagine if that knowledge was not suppressed and outright destroyed im order to promote Christianities superstitions. Imagine if we had continued to progress, rather than lose thousands of years of advancement and knowledge. And we are still fighting it today. Creationism is Schools! Suppression of Stem Cell research! Just think of how much Christianity has and is costing society! Quote

Tormod Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 The world ended a while back, actually. Didn't any of you see the documentary trilogy, I think it was called "Matrix" or something. Quote
Freethinker Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 The world didn't end, we just changed operating systems. Quote
Freethinker Posted November 17, 2004 Report Posted November 17, 2004 Ah! perhaps the "blue pill"? Reboot into the old operating system, while the Red (Hat?) pill... Quote
TheBigDog Posted April 1, 2006 Report Posted April 1, 2006 When people talk about the world ending, are the talking about the world itself actually ending, ceasing its ability to support any life, or just the end of people? Does it matter if you are a person? I am having a big party on Dec 13, 2012. I think that is the first day after the last day on the Maya Calendar. Everyone is envited. Keep it open, it will be a hootinanny. :) Bill Quote
