Tarantism Posted September 10, 2006 Report Posted September 10, 2006 Jung is really interesting! here is a coment on his coined term, synchronicity: the concept of synchronicity indicates a meaningful coincidence of two or more events, where something other than the probability of chance is involved. chance is a statistical concept which explains deviations within certain patterns of probability. synchronicity elucidates meaningful arrangements and coincidence which somehow go beyond the calculations of probability. pre-cognition, clairvoyance, telepathy, etc, are phenomena which are inexplicable through chance, but become empirically intelligable through the employment of synchronicity, which suggests a kind of harmony at work in the interrelation of both psychic and physical events. do you think that the principle of synchronicity has significance, and if so please explain. Quote
InfiniteNow Posted September 11, 2006 Report Posted September 11, 2006 Jung does it well himself in his writings. The one that stands out to me (and I apologize in advance for any misrepresentations, because I'm paraphrasing to my best recollection), is he was working with a patient who had been talking about her dreams. In her dream, she had seen bunches of some insect, like a locust or something. Jung struggled to understand it's significance, and as he asked the patient what the locust means to her, one appeared on the window in his office at that moment, and the patient had the most significant break through she'd had in years and years of counseling. I think there is something to it, and am deeply fascinated by the topic myself. Wonderful thread idea my dancing friend. I look forward to hearing the thoughts of other Hypographites. Quote
Tarantism Posted September 11, 2006 Author Report Posted September 11, 2006 something similr happened to me yesterday night when i was trying to sleep. i have a kind of insomnia i suppose, i usualy wake up around noon and sleep around 4 or 5 in the am....so as a byproduct i just lay there and think as a kind of meditation apart from my quigong. anyway, i was contemplating a dream i had been having where me or me and some friends start a some location completely comfortabe, and then for some reason velociraptors begin to chase me, no matter where i am or what mood i am in. i sometimes get away and survive, and others i die. i was rereading my dreamjournal and i suddenly realized the significane of not only the dinosaurs that had it out for me but also some other, more minor things that were happening in my dreams. very interesting, because i suddenly jsut REALIZED, and i stood up, walked into my lavatory and washed my face. i couldnt sleep last night though :D Quote
InfiniteNow Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 What about the principle itself? Anyone have thoughts on that? Quote
