Mohit Pandey Posted September 12, 2006 Author Report Posted September 12, 2006 Can you give me some context and history on this? I've never heard of it before, but am curious to learn. :hihi: Gandhiji is known as the father of the Indian nation. Satyagraha or passive resistance is the Gandhiji's celebrated technique of non - violent struggle. Satyagraha was born in Johannesburg, South Africa a hundred years ago on 11 September, 1906. The importance of Satyagraha is that it was used by Indian people, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, in their struggle against British rule. Ultimately, it helped the Indian people in gaining independence freedom British on 15 August, 1947.This method is different from others as it is non - violent. Since 11 September 1906, the use of Satyagraha as a mode of opposition to oppression has been utilised by many leaders through out the length and breadth of the world. Satyagraha has been recognised as the most formidable but also the best way of dealing with conflict whether in the home, in society or in International affairs. More and more people are opting for non-violent solutions rather than the wanton destruction of violent action. But at the same time in the world violence has increased and we need to take some systematic action to curb the violence( The last paragraph copied from the website which is third on the list given below).
