wine Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 I want my 1/8th computer audio outlet to split into two seperate channels. One LeftOne Right Are there channel splitting cables out there? I've never been able to find one. (thanks) Quote
Tormod Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 Yes, this can be found at Radio Shack etc. It's a normal Y splitter cable. Quote

InfiniteNow Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 Every time I go there they try to sell me something else. Why earn commission on just a $1.99 product when you can convince those who know very little about the products to spend orders of magnitude more... What you REALLY need is this 7.1 Dolby system with progressive scan... blah blah blah. Finally, you'll just buy it to get them to shut up, and they make a bunch more... Don't be too accusatory... sometimes, they really believe they are helping you, but struggle to understand your request and have to guess (spoken from someone in customer service... :hyper:) Quote
alexander Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 lol, like the time that a guy in staples told me that the scanner i was looking at did not have an optical resolution (no really, my reaction was like, "wow, so it doesnt work then?")Or the time when a BestBuy guy tried to convince me that Firewire was faster then USB 2.0, or that an 2.4Ghz Celeron is all i would ever need in college, that same guy tried to tell me that i dont use my processor to its full potential most of the time anyways (that was back when i was running Gentoo and playing around with electricsheep...hmm, right) Oh, or that AMD processors perform less calculations per clock cycle and run hotter then Intel... wine Posted September 19, 2006 Author Report Posted September 19, 2006 Ah yes, their psychology is so simple . . I got what I wanted. The end. :] Quote
Jay-qu Posted September 19, 2006 Report Posted September 19, 2006 lol, like the time that a guy in staples told me that the scanner i was looking at did not have an optical resolution... I have had a few such experiences, its funny :) I had a guy try and tell me that I would need to buy the 802.11g for it to go through a brick wall that I have at home, he also said that to future proof the network so that my internet would not be faster than the wireless speed I would need the g, I brought the b instead, told him there was no danger of getting 11Mb/s any time soon.. It works perfectly fine through the brick wall and I have never noticed a speed issue.. Quote
alexander Posted September 21, 2006 Report Posted September 21, 2006 lol they all operate in 2.4 ghz range so what was his selling point? Its really about radio wave propagation then anything, need it to go through walls, use antennas with more gain, or buy 2, 3, whatever APs and setup roaming... (and aps are cheaper) Quote

One LeftOne Right Are there channel splitting cables out there? I've never been able to find one. (thanks) In the absence of a commercial Y-cable that Tormod mentioned, simply cut off the non-plug end of your 1/8" stereo plug cable, strip the 3 wires, and terminate them at a terminal block or solder on as many leads as you want. Note that both channels share a common ground, ergo just three wires in the cable. Just do it! :D Quote
Tormod Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Note that both channels share a common ground, ergo just three wires in the cable. Just do it! :D Just stick two ends of the cable into separate holes in an electrical outlet first (just to test the conductivity). :) Quote
alexander Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 actually nothing will happen as there is insulation between right channel, left channel and ground, as they are different wires, and different areas on the plug. so do what tormod said and lick the jack, see what happens... if nothing, conductivity sucks, if you feel minor discomfort or death, then you are good to proceed :) P.S. do not try this as it may bery well kill you, it is a joke and should be taken as such!
