dfk31 Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 It is 4:50 AM and I am awake since 1:30AM. I went to bed at 11:45 after sleepinng in my recliner for about an hour. This is getting to be the norm. If I go to bed I can't fall asleep. I usualy get a couple more hours sleep in the AM in my recliner. I sleep in bed only 2-3 hours and wake up. I sleep more hours in my recliner than my bed. Help !!!! Quote
Boerseun Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Hi, and welcome to Hypo, dfk. I'm sorry to hear about your sleeping pattern going for a ball of manure, but rest (!) assured, participating at Hypo definitely won't get you to sleep! I suggest a workout in the afternoon so that you're pretty tired come bedtime. Quote
Tormod Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 As a chronic insomniac I have experienced just about every aspect of not managing to sleep - I have problems falling asleep, and when I do, I wake up early. I have tried every remedy under the sun and the only thing that has worked for me, most of the time, is sleeping pills. I take Imovane in order to fall asleep, and Rivotril in order to not wake up again when the first pill lets go. Talk to your doctor about it and get medication at least for a brief period so you can get back on your feet and get a regular sleeping pattern. Quote
Tormod Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 One thing which has helped me tremendously is to get a small handheld (a Palm Tungsten E) which I use to read e-books. I can then turn off all the lights in my bedroom and read until the pills kick in and I fall asleep. Sometimes I spend hours reading, sometimes (on good days) I fall asleep after 10 minutes. But it has become a routine for me and really helps me fall asleep - plus it helps me read more books in the bargain. Another tip is to get a table fan (just a small one) to keep in your bedroom, by the window, to get fresh air into the room. It also provides you with a droning sound which might give your mind some peace. Chacmool 1 Quote
Boerseun Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 Interesting you mention sleeping pills, T. I've suffered from insomnia a few times in my life, but thankfully not regularly. I normally pass out completely within ten minutes of hopping in the sack, regardless of time/stress/tiredness/etc. But the few times I have had insomnia, and I took some sleeping pills, it actually made it worse! I kid you not. Quote
Boerseun Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 As a chronic insomniac...Well now, that explains your post-count, then. Quote
Tormod Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 But the few times I have had insomnia, and I took some sleeping pills, it actually made it worse! I kid you not. That's why it's imperative to see a doctor. I had to go through several different pills before we found a combination that worked for me. People are different and react differently to medication so trial-and-error must be expected. Maybe we should start a new thread on this topic rather than hijack our new member's introduction thread. :) Quote
Jay-qu Posted September 22, 2006 Report Posted September 22, 2006 I struggled to sleep last year when i was studying like crazy, meditation was my means for getting some sleep as it was mainly the fact that my head needed clearing so i could relax. But I also went on sleeping pills, tamazipan i think, when I got sick and couldnt sleep cos of pain the pain! Quote
