Michaelangelica Posted October 11, 2006 Report Posted October 11, 2006 The Australia Institute this week published a report which really has the S..t hitting the fanAbout the ways very young girls are sexualised by the media and fashion houses. Personally I have also seen the same thing in my young girl's end-of-year dance classes where sexual movements and dressing makes Bump-and-grind- pole dancing is tame by comparison.!!And Mums are dressing their girls in pornographic adult costumes. Some of the retailers are threatening to sue The Australia InstituteDavid Jones denies ads sexualise children Retailer David Jones has denied suggestions its advertising sexualises children. A report by the Australia Institute accuses some retailers of engaging in "corporate paedophilia" by having young models pose in sexually-suggestive positions. David Jones says it does not use colour make-up on children and never has youngsters pose inappropriately. Spokesman Damien Eales says the allegations are defamatory. "We take great care to ensure that those family values are portrayed in our advertising material," he said. "Not only do we comply with the guidelines set out by the New South Wales Office of the Children's Guardian, but above these guidelines we've adopted our own policies and procedures to ensure that children are displayed appropriately." The Australia Institute report says children as young as three are being targeted by advertisers to dress and appear sexy. Dr Emma Rush, from the Australia Institute, says that form of advertising can make children more susceptible to paedophiles. "It teaches children that sexy is something that children do but children don't necessarily know the full ramifications of what that means," Dr Rush said. "They dress and behave in sexy ways and that then leaves them vulnerable if they're approached by disreputable adults offering romance."http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems/200610/s1759352.htm From what I have seen of American baby-fashion-contests/shows the problem is even worse in the USA (?) Freddy Posted October 12, 2006 Report Posted October 12, 2006 This is the second time this week I have come across this issue. Lately, on Sundays when I look through the flyers some of the clothes that these child and teen models are wearing is questionable. Dressed in underwear, swimwear, and other clothing these young child/teen models likey do appeal to those adults who target children. Perhaps these companies should check their ads featuring children before publication. Even though this issue has not been raised publicly where I live, it may be wise to prevent anything that could be seen as over exposing children to those adults who are attracted to them.
