alexander Posted October 25, 2006 Report Posted October 25, 2006 Ok, so its no secret that i have an iAudio X5, and that i think it is the best of the available hard disk mp3 payers out there. But recently i have made it even better because i have installed rockbox on it, and if you have an mp3 player i would suggest you do the same! Why? Well, rockbox is an external firmware that makes you able to do a lot of stuff you could not imagine doing on your mp3 player, i was just playing the original doom on mine, sound, music, motion, creatures, levels, menus, everything exacly like i remember them. Recording capabilities extend the maximum file size to however big your HD is (i use mine to connect directly to the mixer output and use the line in capability to record straight from the line in in 320kbit mp3) This firmware allows you to set gains on channels, has a better EQ then the original firmware, is a lot easier to configure, althoug like everything it takes a little getting used to. You Ipod people will appreciate its capability to play ogg files as well as flac and the original ipod formats (including apple losless and aac), wma and wavs. It still allows you to view images, and there now is support for video (with free video encoding software) And the best part is that you can literaly dualboot your mp3 player and use the original firmware at your leasurely convenience! What are you loosing, 5-10 megs of space? Trust me its awesome! You gain about 100% more usability from your mp3 player... more info available at www.rockbox.org enjoy, go and hack your mp3 player, if you dont like it, you can revert in a few minutes of time, its so beautiful and useful, a worthwile investment of your time!
