US Federal Grant Submission

I wasn't sure where to post this, so mods please feel free to move it to a more appropriate forum as deemed necessary. :)

Has anyone applied for and received a US Federal Grant for R&D as an individual, and especially an unsolicited proposal? If so, any tips would be greatly appreciated.

 

Or does anyone have a link to some older (or example) submissions that are available online?

 

I just need a basic template/outline for an unsolicited proposal (DOE if that specifically matters). I already have the contact info/etc.
