alexander Posted November 2, 2006 Report Posted November 2, 2006 So i am planning to make Hypo a sort of reference encyclopedia on historical subjects (at least for students and all for the future), so i figured that the best way to do that is to try to start a HIPP (Historically-Intelligent Posting People) club, where if someone posts a topic a day in history (relevant to history and ofcourse historically accurate) for a week straight, you could join the HIPP club (actualy i will clear this with Tormod first but that is the idea for now) 165 years ago, in 1841, Aghbar Khan, a general of an afghan rebel army, rebelled against Shah Shuja, the governor of Bengal (1839-42), led an opposition against the British mission lead by William McNaughten and an army of 4500 men. in November of 41 he murdered 2 British agents in Khabul. But on that same note British retreated from Khabul in 42 because of constant government assasinations, rebellions (stuff we refer to today as terrorism). It is actually considered the most disasterous event in the history of the British millitary. Historians beleive that it is unlikely that Aghbar wished total annihiliation of the British army, however his ability to unite diverse Afghan tribes, along with the massacre of 14000 people (thats like 1/3 of the invading force of brittain) is strongly encouraging the opposite thougts... pgrmdave Posted November 8, 2006 Report Posted November 8, 2006 Wouldn't Wikipedia be better for that, and easier to search? Forums are exactly the best information repositories. Quote
alexander Posted November 8, 2006 Author Report Posted November 8, 2006 yes and no, yes wiki has a good format, yes it contains about a gazillion times the information, but, here information is ordered, and discussions, if such happen are better for people who are looking at a certain topic (students writing essays and stuff) because aside from the main research, things can be pointed out that may expand the search horizon of a researcher by pointing in interesting directions via things like interesting, not too documented facts, figures and such...
