What is the greatest volcanic eruption in recorded history?

Depends on whatcha mean by 'recorded'. Mt. Mazama in 4650 B.C.E.(formed Crater Lake in Oregon) and Kikai (Japanese islands) in 4300 B.C.E. appear to have ejected the most material of any erruptions we yet have evidence for; each spewed out over 100 cubic kilometers.
