skuzie Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 Just wondering if there is any software music composers out there?Any good new sequencers/trackers out there? Its been my hobby for the last 8 years or so making music, i started with tracking (Impulse Tracker) and advanced towards sequencing using Propellerhead Reason. You can check out my latest loops and full songs at: http://www.thebinarytree.com/music/tomsmusic.htm I would be happy to create a Hypography theme song/loop if there is a need for one. Cheers,Tom Quote
Tormod Posted November 12, 2006 Report Posted November 12, 2006 Hey Tom, I make a lot of music on my PC. I use Ableton Live (currently Live 6) and used Reason for a while but sold it since it was just sitting there. I've also used FL Studio a bit but I never really liked it. I have posted some of my music around Hypography. Here is a track for a contest I participated in last year over at KVRaudio.com: http://hypography.com/forums/tracks/0511_kovacs___myse.mp3 I am a guitarist by education but use a lot of VSTi's like NI Komplete (just got K4!). Would be great to talk music. :cup: Quote
skuzie Posted November 14, 2006 Author Report Posted November 14, 2006 Would be great to talk music. :) Sounds pretty good, I'm not too familiar with VST's, are those some sort of plugins for music software? Is there a special method that you use to create music from scratch? I'm pretty much self taught, I took a music course in university as an elective but didn't like approach since it was all practice practice practice and then you can play an instrument from given notes, since i was into the creation i never bothered to learn and 'practice' as mainstream instrument teaching goes. I wanted to create a totally new approach of playing an instrument, the keyboard in my case. Over the years I tuned and refined my approach to compose music, more from an algorithmic point of view .. hey I'm a mathie :cup: I'm a big fan of chords, i rearrange them over and over then slice them and do other funky things to them to get a pleasing sound. I start using the piano sound in the sequencer since it is rich with chords .. guitar also does the trick .. then after i have something pleasing i might change the instrument to something else, like a synth. Then work with the base/strings/drums to fit the rest of the song. Do you have a special approach when you create your own music? Quote
Tormod Posted November 14, 2006 Report Posted November 14, 2006 Which sequencer do you use if you've never heard of VST's? Do you have a keyboard workstation? Or do you do everything in Reason? VST = Virtual Studio Technology, ie plugins like synths etc.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Studio_Technology I own tons of those (even my guitar is run through a couple). I plug my guitar into a Presonus BlueTube DP2 (a two-channel tube preamp) and then route it straight through a small Behringer mixer to get it into my soundcard. Theoretically I don't need the mixer but my Audiophile 2496 soundcard only has one pair of stereo inputs... :cup: I am a guitarist by education so I guess that means most of my music has a guitar aspect to it. But the way I write is not very structured. I'll come up with some idea and then try to work it into phrases or maybe a chord progression. Often I'll use my keyboard instead of the guitar to lay down chords etc, but I find that I don't play chords as much as random arpeggios of sorts... I like to experiment so most of my music has it's own sound. Quote
