paigetheoracle Posted November 17, 2006 Report Posted November 17, 2006 Without subjective reality, along with perception of it originally, played back as memory; where would we be in everday life? (Objective reality only requires instant perception here and now but subjective reality is based on past experience, not present). Quote
ronthepon Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 There is no progress whatsoever, other than evolutionary. Quote
moo Posted November 18, 2006 Report Posted November 18, 2006 Without subjective reality, along with perception of it originally, played back as memory; where would we be in everday life?Extinct. :) For example: The day after birth, no one has a clue who/what an infant is or how to care for them. But it's a moot point anyway, because the adults don't remember what foods are safe to eat, where the water supply is, how to make shelter, etc. :) moo Quote
openmindshutmouth Posted November 19, 2006 Report Posted November 19, 2006 Its also good for things like dont stick a knife into an electrical outlet twice! Quote
Boerseun Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 It's got to do with lions. They look cute, but Uncle Gak has only one leg and no arms because of them, if memory serves. Stay away from the lions! Quote
ronthepon Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 Supposing everything would get genetical eventually? Look at the microbes, and just note that every thing they do are genetically controlled, and not by memory. The genomes would get gigantically enormous... Quote

Look at the microbes, and just note that every thing they do are genetically controlled, and not by memory. The genomes would get gigantically enormous...Interesting, but wouldn't that pretty much eliminate the thought process as we know it altogether? Hmmm... I guess the absence of memory would anyway though. :warped: moo Quote
Boerseun Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 'Parrently, we evolved brains because our genetic 'memory' is too limiting. And then, a few years ago, we invented writing, because our brains are too limiting! So the eventual evolution of our genetic 'memory' leads us straight to the library door. And this is being superceded now, as we speak, by the internets... Quote
ronthepon Posted November 20, 2006 Report Posted November 20, 2006 It's a conspiracy, I tell you. Storing all info in genes would have life so damn simple. Would'nt have to remember tons of crap. There do exist higher forms of memory keeping, as it seems. The question of what info remains where is determined by how much we use it. That's cool, analysing this, just doing it for fun. How to secrete proteins, vital for life processes: gene bank2 + 2, how to compute square roots, dance steps: memoryValue of pi till 10,000 digits, Names of all presidents of all countries ever: internet Cool.:D Cool. Turtle Posted November 22, 2006 Report Posted November 22, 2006 I forgot what I objected to...harumph...mermerrere...simmer down in here. :) In my day we subjected ourselves to forgetting more than we knew and we liked it! :) Quote
