Tormod Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 We need to wrap up the avatar contest but since IrishEyes is in charge of it I suggest we wait until she is back. With only three participants I don't think anyone is holding their breath, though. Quote
Aki Posted December 4, 2004 Report Posted December 4, 2004 So what's going to be the next competition? Quote
Tormod Posted December 5, 2004 Author Report Posted December 5, 2004 Good question...any ideas? Maybe we could have an essay contest, a photography contest, a best webstie contest...I'm all ears. We just need to do something that people want to participate in! Quote
alexander Posted December 6, 2004 Report Posted December 6, 2004 Interesting question Aki!Tormod, I dont know about an essay contest, I dont think many people would like to write an essay during their free time, photography, interesting, but what about people who dont have cameras, website, even more interesting, but there is always a few sites that stand out. I was thinking about a coding contest, but then again many people here dont code, best scientiffic fact contest, but then its very opinion based judging... Maybe a best signature contest, because everyone can participate, best google search contest (there could be categories here too, most random, weirdest results and so forth), most random thing you can find on ebay, the best book contest, again with categories... i dunno, but i think ive given you a bit to think about. Tormod Posted December 6, 2004 Author Report Posted December 6, 2004 Good input, alexander. Best google search...interesting. How? Other ideas: best quote contest, best topic rating contest (ie the topic that gets the best rating in a certain period wins), best joke, best "real science experience" contest... Quote
Tormod Posted December 6, 2004 Author Report Posted December 6, 2004 How about a desktop background competition? Quote
alexander Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Hey, that sounds very interesting too, but thats almost like the last one, meybe we could save that one for the next one...(some topics here, much like with avatars: Tech, Abstract, Scientiffic, Microsoft ridiculing, Anime, Pictures, and the rest)How to hold the best google search contest? You could split it into categories like the most random search, totally unexpected results, search with the most answers and so forth, and then have people post what they were searching for, why and a link... Quote
Tormod Posted December 7, 2004 Author Report Posted December 7, 2004 I like the Google idea. Let's work on that. As for backgrounds, I figured only ONE topic would do: use the Hypography logo (the inverted H) in any way you want...mangle it, twist it, model it in 3D, use effects on it, well...anything possible, really. Quote
alexander Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Yeah, but then it doesnt make it a background contest, more of an art contest, how creative can you be with a hypography H, type of deal... I'm glad you like the Google idea, would you like to discuss it here or the "Secret" section with the rest of mods or over PM or email? Quote
Tormod Posted December 7, 2004 Author Report Posted December 7, 2004 No, let's discuss it here. New Scientist often features "one-off" searches in their fun stuff-column. Those are searches which give only one result. That could be one category. Then there are misspellings, perhaps. Quote
alexander Posted December 7, 2004 Report Posted December 7, 2004 Sure, that sounds good, misspellings could go under its own category, random search, random result, single answer. Quote
IrishEyes Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 Ok, I'm back. Vacation was wonderful, thanks for asking. Avatar competition is over. Winners are rather obvious. I have stuff to send out, so I need some addresses. Beaker, if you read this, send me your postal mail address via PM. Alexander, I think I already have yours, but PM me with it anyhow. schulme, I'll need a PM from you as well. Thank you to all that participated. You were all three amazing. I am looking forward to using your avatars as soon as I get the chance to upload one of them. Quote
Tormod Posted December 13, 2004 Author Report Posted December 13, 2004 I am already using Alexander's abstract avatar...at another forum. ;) In fact, it's right here (had to crop it a bit):http://www.vbadvanced.com/forum/member.php?userid=5379 Quote
alexander Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 I'm honored! Hey, maybe i ought to get an avatar, let me browse through some things i've made, it'll be up soon... Quote
Tormod Posted December 28, 2004 Author Report Posted December 28, 2004 How about a slogan contest? Now we have "Hypography - Science for everyone" and "Hypography - Connect the dots". Maybe a good idea for a contest? Quote
Aki Posted December 29, 2004 Report Posted December 29, 2004 The slogan contest sounds good. I was thinking maybe we could have a Hypography logo contest, which sort of related to the avatar contest. IrishEyes 1 Quote
