cwes99_03 Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Sorry, for the wine, just thought that if you were going to give a shout out to someone for having a high "reputation" that some should know what such "reputation" amounted to.Thus I presented a case that someone with such a high reputation (particularly Turtle) has done some very disreputable things on this forum that a large percentage of this thread has happily overlooked.I believe my reputation is intact, despite the barrage of neg reps and comments calling me a whiner, because I repeatedly stand up for the little guy (which btw was part of why I was picked on in school, no one liked the guy who always picked up the kid after he got knocked down by the bully.) I on the other hand have become quite secure with the backhanded slaps to the face and have learned to turn the other cheek. Have a nice thread fellas. Quote

Your apology is insincere, disingenuous, and backhanded. You have no basis to judge how I receive my rep and I am subject to the same discipline here as anyone else. Your continued assertion I have gained my reputation illegitimately is offensive and contrary to the beliefs you claim to hold and represent. You insult not only me, but all the other members with your continuing hypocrisy and demeaning rhetoric on this topic. :) Quote
Pyrotex Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 ...You insult not only me, but all the other members with your continuing hypocrisy and demeaning rhetoric on this topic. :doh:I agree 100% with you Turtle. I find myself feeling demeaned and insulted every time Cwes responds to my posts. That a newcomer, with a singular inability to get along and make friends announces that HE is to be the judge and arbiter of our community is beyond arrogance. It is borderline sociopathy. So, Turtle, is that true that you gave him 7 negreps in a month? Golly gee, kid, it looks like I have some catching up to do. :) :hyper: :hyper: Jay-qu 1 Quote

I am sure most of the members here at Hypography are aware of the excellent contributions Turtle has made - from participating in discussions, to posting endless drawings, paintings and other works of art. I on the other hand have become quite secure with the backhanded slaps to the face and have learned to turn the other cheek. Have a nice thread fellas. You on the other hand behave like a little kid - throw dirt on someone else (even in a thread where they are praised for their contributions!) and pretend you're blameless yourself. You don't turn the other cheek, you just turn cheeky. I rarely say this, but you deserve it: Go play somewhere else. Quote
CraigD Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Too bad rep points have turned into the highschool equivalence of the cool making the cool, which is not what their original intention was, I think cwes presumes somewhat in professing to know what the original intention of rep points was, or even if the intention of whoever originally invented or implemented them is important. I’ve long viewed reputation, karma, or whatever a forum site with such a scheme has, as being an effort to make the somewhat impersonal online medium feel more “lifelike”. In an ordinary, flesh-and-blood community (such as a highschool), reputations are built in a complicated and informal way. I think rep points are intended to function similarly. So, like in highschool, high rep doesn’t imply a person is smarter, more courteous, liked by the greatest number of people, or any other simple attribute. One’s reputation may suffer because of one’s good deeds, or benefit from one’s bad ones. Reputation is not fair. In my experience, wise people are not overly concerned with reputation, other than to avoid having an unusually poor one. Everyone who’s posted in this thread has a respectable reputation. I attribute our tendency to celebrate reputation “milestones” (100, 200, etc) as due to a certain degree of numeric geekiness, and a tendency to seize on any excuse to celebrate. Quote
Chacmool Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 "The best thing for being sad," replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, "is to learn something. That's the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then -- to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn." - from The Once and Future King by T.H. White. We are all here to learn, teach, help and encourage. We are certainly not here to abuse, insult, accuse and disrespect. CraigD, pgrmdave, Jay-qu and 1 other 4 Quote
