Michaelangelica Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 This is as shocking as it is unexpected. NASA Chief Under Fire For Personal Shuttle Usehttp://www.theonion.com/content/node/41904;) Quote
Tormod Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 I saw the thread title and thought "uh oh, another hoaxter"...not that I don't think NASA is free of corruption... Great catch... :hyper: Quote
pgrmdave Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Ah, The Onion. Second only to the Daily Show in fake news. Quote
InfiniteNow Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Ah, The Onion. Second only to the Daily Show in fake news. Daily Show exaggerates based on real news, onion tends to make stuff up. While slight, there is a difference. :hyper: Quote
Pyrotex Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Actually, between the FOX (Faux) News Network and Rush Limbaugh, we don't have a single source of unbiased news in America -- except for The National Inquirer and The Onion. There are many of us in and around NASA who knew that Griffith had certain flight privileges, but we don't talk about it publicly, because he often takes friends along with him on his trips, and we all are hoping that we will be chosen next. Buffy Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Daily Show exaggerates based on real news, onion tends to make stuff up.The Onion can't hold a candle to the Weekly World News! Its my fave in the checkout line at the store... As for this particular story, its a perfect example of why Gingrich wants to suspend the First Amendment. This is classified information that provides terrorists with targetting data. God help us if they hit the Augusta Country Club! :hyper: The truth as always will be far stranger, ;)Buffy Quote
Pyrotex Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 The Onion can't hold a candle to the Weekly World News! Its my fave in the checkout line at the store...Wow, Buffy, I never knew that... "As swinging physicists and weapons inspectors know, the decontamination chamber is an unexpected haven of the singles scene." Hot damn! They got several decon chambers on E-Bay. Gotta go! :hyper: Quote
maikeru Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 I like this Onion article as well: "Evangelical Scientists Refute Gravity With New 'Intelligent Falling' Theory"http://www.theonion.com/content/node/39512 "Closed-minded gravitists cannot find a way to make Einstein's general relativity match up with the subatomic quantum world," said Dr. Ellen Carson, a leading Intelligent Falling expert known for her work with the Kansan Youth Ministry. "They've been trying to do it for the better part of a century now, and despite all their empirical observation and carefully compiled data, they still don't know how." Quote
Tormod Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 ;) Fantastic! The Onion also had an article about Particle Physicists Split The Bill... :D Quote
Michaelangelica Posted December 1, 2006 Author Report Posted December 1, 2006 LOL so many new threads to look up too many jokes. As you can probably see I have only just discovered the Onion. Most American humor does not stike many chords here.Check out the "Chaser" website for similar stuff:-http://www.chaser.com.au/eg Tom, Katie unwrap 391st wedding e-meter (photo)After opening their wedding presents, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have scored 62 copies of Dianetics, 391 "e-meters" and 17,042 free informational DVDs about Scientology. Some of the wedding guests have attributed the enormous overlap to the difficulty of picking gifts for the couple that has everything. "I gave them one of those Scientology e-meter devices because I knew they'd have to pretend to like it," one friend said. "Just like Katie's family had to pretend they liked their once-Catholic daughter being brainwashed by a freaky religious cult."You probably have to be familiar with OZ politics to get a lot of it. An older more international version is CNNNN.is here:-http://www.cnnnn.com/CNNNN discovers Americans support war on Kyrgyzstan, 'wherever it may be'Kyrgyzstan The difficulties experienced in Iraq have not put Americans off going to war again, CNNNN's Julian Morrow found when he surveyed people on the streets of Texas Their interviews of people on the street, especially Americans, are as funny as they are frightening. eg "What State does Kentucky Fried Chicken come from?" The NASA article was re-printed in Cosmos, an excellent local science magazine, with a picture of the NASA director playing golf with the shuttle parked behind him -cute. It was just in there with all the real science articles- took a while to get your head arround it!(Although on the last page -often quirky ) Particle physicists splitting the bill !! PLEASE:hihi: Quote
Pyrotex Posted December 1, 2006 Report Posted December 1, 2006 ...Particle physicists splitting the bill !! PLEASE:hihi:Sure. They use check accellerators. Quote
Jim Colyer Posted December 23, 2006 Report Posted December 23, 2006 I think NASA has done an outstanding job when you consider the big picture. Quote

Europa Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Hey, if you're searching for intelligent life in the Universe, don't waste your time at NASA. Pyro the Puerile I know that is why I made the assertion I did. Quote
Buffy Posted April 18, 2007 Report Posted April 18, 2007 Yes, but you should never bite the hand that feeds you. It may not be where your budget comes from but it *is* where a lot of your data comes from and you stand on the shoulders of giants like Pyro. The name you call may be your own,Buffy Quote
