Greetings! We're a philosophically scientific bunch here, so you should enjoy this place.

How did you find us? What were the keywords/links?

Metaphorically,

Hi Buffy,

I was googling the term Time and Plank and you were in the results with a forum entry. I had a read through some of the other areas. I am only an amateur on the subjects. I have found other places full of accademics who either don't respond or are patronising. The forums here look friendly and non judgemental so I thought I would give it a try.

I have a few things which I try to sort out on the subject and no dount they are big questions. The first is why the speed of light. What causes it to be what it is. The second is the consequence of c. I am strongly in the substantivalism camp and not the relationism camp when it comes to spacetime but I have a nagging doubt that time should be treated in the same way as space. Last night I was thinking about c being the fastests velocity and therefore are there other maxima and minima. There is a lot of talk about Plank length and time etc and that they are the smallest distances there can be but I do not buy it. There seems to be a lot of misuse of the term. Plank length is about a distance below which quantum effects take over from relativity rather than the smallest length (which is how many seem to talk about it). The implications of it actually being the smallest length were what I was thinking about specifically and my thoughts will be the subject of my first thread.

Looking forward to some good debate and some helpful pointers.

Welcome to Hypography, UKOK!

It would be better for you to pose your questions in the physics and mathematics forum since the introductions forum is not really meant for discussion (and not everyone monitors this forum). :naughty:

Well, we are a social environment, so you will certainly encounter personalities and egos at times that are abrasive to your own, but, overall, it's a good bunch who compose this community and I'm glad you've decided to take part. I look forward to your contributions, and will see you in the forums.

Enjoy! :hihi:
