Racoon Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 Almost... December 15th to be exact. and I'd like to thank everybody for making Hypography such a great place to visit and discuss online. :) Internet has been around for a while now, but only 1 year ago did I get caught up in the communication of it... previously It was merely a quick tool for getting info for research papers. I resisted its pull and allure. And I still do to a large degree... But I realized what a differece it is in making friendships and contacts with random and special people from all over the country and Globe! :) Racoon went through a learning curve so I appologize for suffering you fine folks with a mixture of testosterone, inexperience, and sometimes just plain bull honky :D I remain loyal to Hypography, as it is for me a wonderful science forum. :cup: ;) Anyone remember when they joined? how long ago? and what impact its had on you? Buffy Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 :):cup:Pre-congrats Rac! You've been an amazing contributor to this place! (for those of you who weren't watching closely: Racoon has *deleted* more posts than most all of us have ever *posted* in just that one year!) I've been here almost 2 years, although I've been playing with the Internet, well, longer than just about everybody. Hypography has been quite an experience and I've learned a lot and made a lot of friends in the process. What a great place. I like to celebrate it all the time. Thanks for creating an excuse Rac! Cheers! ;)Buffy Quote
pgrmdave Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 lol - I first joined because I wanted a T-Shirt ;) I was trying to look up some stuff about black holes, and that led me here. There was a contest for a free T-shirt to anybody who reached 250 posts by some time in december, and I was determined to get a T-shirt! I managed to post 250 posts by the time needed (the forums were much slower then, but I still managed an average of about 10 posts per day). I got the T-shirt (eventually :) ) and I've been here ever since. I joined for the contest, and because the forum seemed much more friendly than other online forums, and slower paced (it's not any more, though). It was possible to view every post made in a day, and keep up with every 'hot' thread. What really keeps me here are the people, and the sense of community that there is here. Quote
Tormod Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 lol - I first joined because I wanted a T-Shirt ;) I remember that! I think you were one of the first people on the current admin/mod team. It was so different in the "old" days...I remember howm uch that old forum software sucked. Thank heavens for vBulletin. :) Quote
Drip Curl Magic Posted December 5, 2006 Report Posted December 5, 2006 ahhh, it's been about a year and one month for me. I remember orby telling me about this site. At the time, I was just starting to embrace learning again. (I was growing out of my rebelious and lazy teenage phase). And I decided it'd be a nice learning tool. Thus far, I believe I have grown intellectually to a tremendous degree. I've found other really cool learning tools/resources since I discovered Hypo, But hypo definately was my reintroduction to the science world. I'll go through phases where I post a lot here on the good ol' science forums, and then I'll go through dead stages where I don't come around too often, and rarely post anything worth anyone's time. ahhh, but when time is one my side, and technology isn't failing, there's no doubt you can find me spending most of my interenet using-time here on hypo. I love Hypography. And I love all the humans that input knowledge into the database here at hypo!! Thank you all so much for an amazing year. Quote
