Taildragerdriver Posted December 10, 2006 Report Posted December 10, 2006 Hello All: I am interested in many science issues. I am a forester and range conservationist by training and profession. I work for the US Forest Service as a developer of a decision support application. I am the science leader for this application. I live and work in a small town in NE Oregon. My initial reason for getting into this is Terra Preta (Amazon Dark Earth)on a personal issue that I am interested in. I own a few pastures in the local area. These pastures have been heavily irrigated for over 100 years. They are very leached out with relatively low organic matter and fertility. I am interested in attempting to produce large amounts of charcole from local wood slash. I am looking to solve two problems. The first is improving my pastures long term and second in finding a way to utilize forest biomass to reduce forest fire intensity and in the local Wildland/Urban Interface. In a way that is economicaly viable for the public and private lands. Thanks Quote

Michaelangelica Posted March 26, 2007 Report Posted March 26, 2007 Hi Taildragerdriver we will be gentle on your first post:) The reality is we are all trying to understand something that is the one time simple and at others very complex A bit like sex really.:naughty: Quote
Taildragerdriver Posted March 27, 2007 Author Report Posted March 27, 2007 I hope you noticed I got into the actual thread for Terra Preta and few others. I have been swamped with work and putting together a grant for operational testing of Terra Preta concepts. I hope to get back into the discussions one of these days. If we get the grant and do the 7.5 acre test I will be posting progress in the Terra Preta discussion. Thanks If you want to you can drop or delete this thread. Taildragerdriver Quote
Tormod Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 Taildrager, we have a dedicated forum for Terra Preta now! I've moved your posts there. http://hypography.com/forums/terra-preta.html Quote
Taildragerdriver Posted April 24, 2007 Author Report Posted April 24, 2007 Tormod: I have been using the Terra Preta thread for discussion. I was just using this thread to document the acutal work being done to do the operational test. It seems not to belong in the standard thread to me. I told people there I was going to use this thread for documenting the process of getting ready for the opreational test in NE Oregon. I would rather keep it seperate. And by the way the terra preta thread you linked here has been closed. I can't find where you put it. I have been involved in the "Opinion: What are the challenges of Terra Preta" but I can't find it there. Can you clean this up. Thanks Taildragerdriver Quote
