genelocus Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 Hi, I'm new here. I've been an Atheist since I was 14. My father was a minister with a masters in theology, but then became a doctor. I am British, but I lived in Mexico from age 6 to 13, and my dad provided medical services to the poor. My dad gave a sermon once a month at the English church. About the time I was 9, I noticed that his sermons got more and more secular. He would just tell stories about the goodness of people we had encountered. Even though I loved my church, I started having doubts about the logic of the teachings. I discussed my views with my brother and sister, and they were also losing their faith. A few weeks later, my dad called a family meeting, and we knew it was to discuss our faith. Instead he announced that he no longer believed in the possiblity of a god, and that he had become an atheist. Except for my mother, we were all thrilled. As I came to the US and studied science, I gain a deeper understanding of the world and how nature adequately accounts for how living things evolve. I'm a huge fan of Richard Dawkins, and I try to represent atheist views wherever I can. Quote
