Nootropic Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 So I'm curious if anyone knows what some of the great colleges to study astrophysics (or just plain physics) are, or their opinions on the program of any university. At the moment I'm considering between John Hopkins and Michigan State (I do live in Michigan). My main concern is finances, which will be the deciding factor of which college I decide to attend. Anything would be appreciated! Quote
InfiniteNow Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 Clearly attending in state is your best option if finance is the overriding concern. Per Michigan State, you check out this group:NSCL - National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University My thought is that you cannot really go wrong at either UofM or Michigan State, so it's best to find an instructor whose interests most closely match your own and contact them to form a relationship. Ask them questions and further hone your own desires. You may even get to study under them. :) From what I've read, Caltech has a rich and storied history of staff members in this subject area. Best of luck, and good studies. Quote
Buffy Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 I agree with Now on Caltech: my step-dad is an "involved" alumni, and lives next door. I occasionally go to the open lectures there on both these topics and get to pester some of these experts at my mom's xmas party every year. Also though, my alma, UC Berkeley has a phenominal program, and the Space Sciences building has one of the coolest locations on campus way up in the hills.... I have several friends who got their doctorates in astrophysics there... Both of these are really hard to get into, but if you want to shoot for the moon, they really oughta be on your list.... Go Bears, Buffy Quote
