Tormod Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 Finally past December 21! So we're getting more sunlight every day. Up here you can almost notice it from day to day. Quote

Qfwfq Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 But where exactly is the mark now, counting precession? Quote

Turtle Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 I was watching a piece on Stonehenge the other night & they made a strong case for Winter Solstice as the key astronomical event marked by the structure, as opposed to the Summer Solstice that draws such big crowds. Wheras the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge is viewed from within the circle at Sunset, the Winter Solstice is viewed at Sunrise and from the outside and approaching the circle. Quote
Freethinker Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 Sorry I missed being here to help celebrate it. The actual Reason for the Season. The Rebirth of the sun, became the birth of the son. I think the ancients starting over 10,000 years ago celebrated it better than today. They'd cut trees to bring in and decorate them. Keeping something that was alive just in case the sun did not stop falling south and come back again this time. They'd light a yule or log during the night's watch. Use holly wreaths and mistletoe, sing and give presents...,. Hey wait a minute.... Quote
Southtown Posted December 22, 2006 Report Posted December 22, 2006 I'd be interested in those references, if you could please. It is curious, isn't it? If it doesn't come from the Tanach, and it doesn't come from the Gospels, where does Christianity come from? Christianity - Judaism = Mystery... http://hypography.com/forums/theology-forum/7049-truth-about-religion-17.html#post147736 Afterthought: Saint fatass comes from the North Pole. :( Quote
