paigetheoracle Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Remember the darkest hour is just before the dawning of a New Age! (and I don't mean a hippy related one, necessarily) Quote
LJP07 Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 Is there a point to this? Maybe I'm slow on this kinda thing! :) Prolu2007 Quote

paigetheoracle Posted December 27, 2006 Author Report Posted December 27, 2006 Well you could say it's trying to keep your pecker up but if it's not down then maybe it wouldn't make much sense! (It's like all greetings and wishes, frivolous and pointless - saying 'Good luck in your endevours!' doesn't create it for instance). If this year hasn't been a personal disaster it may not mean much to you and may come across as drunken, festive 'rabble' rousing but across this side of the water it seems not only to have been bad, weather and social disaster wise but also on a personal level, from the various reports coming back to me: If you're okay, then this means and should mean nothing to you (I could say more however it would be long and probably tiresome to you but it's a Bob Cratchit moment - in other words 'Eat, drink and be merry because tomorrow you diet' (If you look at death and disaster, and see only the worst in the world: The end of something/death (pre-Christmas Scrooge) then all you will see is stuff to make you despair -however if you 'Look on the Bright Side of Life!' (post Christmas hauntings, Scrooge), then you will find reasons to be cheerful!: The science of emotions is dependent on the direction of gaze - towards the half empty cup and certainty that it will one day be totally empty or at the half full cup and pleasure knowing that you have at least that left and may even get it refilled (Religion's purpose is to give you reason to go on living - spirituality is not asking somebody elses permission to do so or believing anyone else outside you can decide your emotional state for you or should control your destiny but you). Am I religious nut? I hope I don't come across as this but I do believe it exists for a reason and does have something to teach us about the human soul or psyche. As my old Maths master used to say 'Find the common denominator' - in other words look passed the surface gloss and find out the purpose and structure beneath: Positive emotion builds (wants to live/explore) - negative emotion wants to destroy/give up. Personally I believe intelligence = life and stupidity (ignorance), death (suicidal despair/ cowardice - not building up inner intellectual resources, reflected in external resources build up too). If you still don't get it then I could ramble on forever without reaching you, so I won't. I'm not trying to convert you to religion, just trying to say that our emotions reflect our spirit and that this equates to our religious zest for life or our having given up on it and seeking the easy way out, which is death of effort (criminal violence upon ourselves or others and cynical exploitation of resources, human or natural).
