Mercedes Benzene Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Next Monday, January 8th, is the start of the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show, held in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is definitely one of the (if not THE) biggest electronics trade shows in the world. Many great technological advances have come from this show. What are your predictions for this year? Is the anything in particular you are looking forward to?Are you going to the CES?Contemplate and share. :) Quote
Zythryn Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 I would like to go as I think that would be the only way I can see a Nintendo Wii;) I am hoping to see more advances in computer interface. Virtual keyboards, better mice, etc. While we have had some breakthroughs in the concepts of mind controlled computers, I don't think we will be seeing that type of technology at CES for a few years. Buffy Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 I am hoping to see more advances in computer interface. Virtual keyboards, better mice, etc. While we have had some breakthroughs in the concepts of mind controlled computers, I don't think we will be seeing that type of technology at CES for a few years. You won't see any of this stuff: this is the *Consumer* Electronics show. Its what the manufacturers want Best Buy and Walmart to be selling for next Xmas! There's nothing new here that you didn't see in Popular Science a year and a half ago. CES is kinda fun, but it takes a team of wild horses (and being paid) to get me to Las Vegas for a trade show. Yuk. The techies don't gamble and they don't tip, so the local service people are in a funk all week. You do not want to go to Las Vegas for tech shows. Honest. Trust me. Flirting with the union guys at setup will get you everywhere,Buffy Quote
InfiniteNow Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 While I do not imagine that we will see it at the show, I'd appreciate seeing a more synaptic interface for computer control. The dendritic mouse as it were... Quote
alexander Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Hey everyone, I'm back from my extended leave and a look at the world from another side (finally done with my end of the year depression). So YES wait for more extended rants on all sorts of subjectsYES wait for me to try to debate the most sensitive and one-way only issuesYES more of those long posts with comments at the end like ooh time to run, i'm late for classOh and YES more of "Windows sucks, switch to a real operating system" answers ;) Finally my predictions for the show and what i have already seen and heard of:ok, first iPhone and iTV what apple has been talking about forever will either be released officialy. Now iPhone, and i think apple did it right, will be out in a few months, as it still has to clear FCC's beurocratic net (and don't even start on that, its a rant on its own). Phones with built in full blown 5-6 megapixel cameras with decent optical zoom, completely useless but a consumer electronic good thingy. All recently released gaming consoles will be there. Microsoft Junk (aka Vista) will be there and be presented, even though its not really an electronic product. As always 3D stuff and virtual reality expos. Smart Home may or may not be there, but i'm sure the MIT guys whould not miss it for the world to come down to consumer electronics and display their RFID coolness bout it i would think, i mean obviously some new useless car gadgets (anything to get your eyes off the road), extrasmall cameras, navigation equipment and more will be there, dunno if it will really get discussed though... Tormod Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 More useless junk to spend my hard-earned on. Too bad I'm a sucker for gadgets. :D Quote
