I think it is important to remember that general intelligence and common sense are two different things. I know some very intelligent people with very little common sense.

 

In a nutshell, I think common sense equates more closely with Wisdom than it does Intelligence.

 

I feel one important aspect and foundation of common sense is accepting responsibility for ones actions and the consequences of those actions.

If a person tries to jump a gap and fails to make it, I suggest they are more likely to learn from it if they think 'hmmm, that was silly' rather than, 'oooo, I didn't make it, it must be someone else's fault'.

Unfortunately, I think stupidity is a common side effect of that most terminal of diseases - conciousness.

 

Everybody does dumb things. Everybody is stupid in some aspect.

 

Anybody know geniuses who don't brush their teeth? Or otherwise brilliant people who can't balance their checkbook?

 

Perhaps it's best just to let the disease run it's course and see how it plays out. Nature came up with a cure for being unforgivably stupid a loooong time ago.
