arkain101 Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 I was looking at this beauty picture today when I noticed some strange looking waves around the sun, only showing up where the thick flairs are visible. I assumed it was the SOHO telescope creating those effects, but I had'nt noiced it before untill such a large looking flare a perpendicular angle. Is this gravity waves finally? :naughty: Turtle 1 Quote

Is this gravity waves finally? :naughty: That is ginormous by anyone's standards! Good catch Arkain! It is the Sun's magnetic field forming those loops along field lines; think metal filings on paper over a magnet. Here's a link to an animated series of gif images from that instrument of the outburst:http://soho.nascom.nasa.gov/data/LATEST/current_c2.gif From a different SOHO instrument, another animated set of gifs of the burst:http://soho.nascom.nasa.gov/data/LATEST/current_c3.gif Quote
