HappytheStripper Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Hello HappytheStripper it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums? Hey all .. yes I have been a bit slack in my contributions lately.. I assure you I am always thinking though.. this thought in particular I decided to plant right here.. Moderators - please move if you think this thread belongs somewhere else.. thanks.. This particular thought was simple.. to ask you all a question.. a question I pondered for many hours at work last night.. What do you think.. is "Lifes Biggest Question" Is there more than one question to which there logically is more than one answer..?? Or is lifes biggest question simple.. and seeks to only answer one question..?? I asked a friend today what she thought was lifes biggest question.. and without hesitation she answered.. "are you my mother..??" A very simple question we all take for granted.. and ironically I had also thought about this as lifes biggest question.. which suggests to me.. there may indeed be more than one answer.. In order to answer this question .. one first task would be.. to define life and question.. never mind whether its biggest or not.. biggest is a what we perceive as a major life question.. and it is with this thread I ask you all .. What do you think.. is "Lifes Biggest Question" I look forward to your replies .. I'll be back in one week .. enjoy your week ahead and be safe .. Kind Regards Ashley Quote
InfiniteNow Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 The easiest "biggest question" is --> Why? For me, it's this concept of now. It's the bleeding edge of existence, and I cannot fully figure out how it ties into the mental spaces we describe as past and future. Quote
infamous Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 The easiest "biggest question" is --> Why? Indeed........Why? Why does it seem so difficult for mankind to live without war?Why in the vast universe do we exist at all?Why do we humans even take trouble to ask;............WHY? Asking why exposes our insecurity and preposes a search for the fix. ..............................Infy Quote
Freddy Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Is there life after the physical death of the body? Quote
Lancaster Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Is there life after the physical death of the body? Why can't there be life after the death of the physical body? Is it too good to be true? Quote
ronthepon Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Why should you want life after the death of the physical body? Second in line? Quote
Buffy Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 What do you get when you multiply six times seven? Where's the free drinks and cute guys? Why don't you kiss me? Why is it always the grape juice and the white carpet? Quizzical,Buffy Quote
Turtle Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Life's biggest question is, "when will death come?" :computerkeys: Quote
theblackalchemist Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Well i would say why do people worry about death, they are certain that it would come one day and they will die on that day at the destined second. no one can change it.its like money. though we know it is the root of all evil we still want more.same thing if we know that we are going to die some day we are not ready to die tomorrow. maikeru Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Why did Einstein have such poofy hair? Kidding aside, I think it's always been some variant of "why" as InfiniteNow mentioned: Where today? Where tomorrow? Why me? And who am I? Buffy, as for grape juice and white carpet, they both unfold their destinies in a simple and predestined manner. White carpets exist for no other reason than to be stained by grape juice, just as grape juice exists for no other reason than to stain white carpets. It simply is a fact of life, much as fish swim in the sea and birds fly in the air. :computerkeys: Quote
Turtle Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Well i would say why do people worry about death, they are certain that it would come one day ... You have answered your own question; it is because humans are aware fairly soon in life that they most certainly will die. It is a pressure, a worry, a stressor, that we have no evidence that any other living creature manifests. Why it's enough to make someone believe in God. :) Bio-theologically,Turtle Quote
Monomer Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 I thought life's biggest question was what is the purpose/meaning of life. Quote
Pyrotex Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Life's Biggest Question is: "Why are we self-conscious and aware?" Couldn't we eat, sleep, defecate, go hunting for mates, get dressed every morning, use computers and design nuclear weapons without all the freakin' angst about 'who am I?', 'why do I have to die?', 'do I worry too much about my wrinkles?', 'how come my parents never liked me?', and 'why can't I stop procrastinating?'? It just seems to me that the whole "I think therefore I am" shtick is just so totally unnecessary and pointless. What purpose does it serve? And why do I care? Could this be the reason my parents never liked me? Quote
Lancaster Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 I thought life's biggest question was what is the purpose/meaning of life. That question seems to lose purpose without the belief of an all powerful creator (the Christian God, the Gods of the Greeks, whatever). There is no purpose unless you decide there is. It's up to you to decide the meaning of your, life, not of life in general. I think I just realized this now, thanks for the thought-trigger. HappytheStripper 1 Quote
CraigD Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Can quantum physics describe gravity? No, wait, that would be someone else's Biggest Question! Mine is: is the "compression challenge" unwinnable? For reasons that require a lengthier explanation than is appropriate for this post, I believe this is the Biggest Question. Quote
CraigD Posted February 6, 2007 Report Posted February 6, 2007 Life's Biggest Question is: "Why are we self-conscious and aware?"I think this question has a prerequisite question: are we self-conscious and aware? which has a prerequisite of a definition of “self-conscious and aware”? Quote
