Could it be a toasted disc? Try burning another one, perhaps.

Ok, I'm gonna try another burn, but I do not think that is the problem as the menu appears and everything seems to be in order, initially at least.

I found this with some help by Google:

Some common beginner Linux installation issues - www.reallylinux.com

The next biggest problem that I've seen occur with a new user installing Ubuntu, is that the disk they have or the ISOs they've downloaded are corrupt. It is essential if you are downloading any Linux version from the internet, that you perform the vital checksum.

In most cases the key installation issue stems from bad burns or bad ISO downloads

The only reason I mention it is that I had to burn a full set of DVD coasters before I could install Kubuntu last year... :eek_big:

Ouch! That is not comforting.

I tried a burn to DVD and had worse results, I didn't even get the menu before it shut down.

I'll try to re-download and burn on my muso comp, which is much more stable.

I seem to remember that in the end it turned out that it wasn't actually my download that was corrupt though. It was the burner on my laptop. I needed to upgrade the firmware and that solved it.

But burning from another PC might solve it. Good luck mate. :eek_big:
